Managing product tax codes

Product tax code

a classification that the merchant assigns to each product to allow a tax calculation engine calculate the correct sales tax to apply to an order.

Product code / SKU

the unique code for the product.

Step by step

Step 1: Log into Management Interface

Log in

Log into Management Interface using your username and password. This opens the dashboard of your Management Interface.

Step 2: Open Tax Codes

Open

Click Catalogue on the left hand menu. This opens Product Administration, from where you can open the Tax Codes screen.

Action 1: Import product tax codes

Import

Complete this step only if you wish to store your product tax codes in Management Interface.

You can update your product tax codes using a spreadsheet update. The spreadsheet consists of three columns: SKU, Name and Tax Code.

Product tax code. Must be alphanumeric.

  • Prepare spreadsheet. To prepare the spreadsheet, download a full list of tax codes from Tax Codes Search (Avalara) and assign your products to relevant tax codes.

  • Click Import. This opens a screen to the right.

  • Click Select Tax Codes Spreadsheet. This opens a file browser.

  • Locate the spreadsheet you wish to import and click Open.

  • Click Submit. This validates your spreadsheet and uploads it for display in the Tax Codes screen. An error is returned if there is a problem with the contents of the spreadsheet.

Action 2: Export product tax codes

Export

Click Export to automatically download a list of all product codes (SKUs), product names and product tax codes.

Action 3: Manually edit a product tax code

Edit
  • Double-click on a tax code to manually edit a product tax code.

  • Update the value in the field. Changes are automatically once you click somewhere else on the screen.

  • Click Esc to cancel editing the field.
